Planning a holiday should feel exciting — not overwhelming.
If you’re wondering how I work as a travel advisor, what it costs, and whether it’s worth it, these FAQs answer the most common questions — simply and honestly.
What does a travel advisor do and is it worth using one?
Booking a holiday is generally the easy part. Choosing one that feels right takes time.
I take your ideas and turn them into 2–3 well-matched options — then handle the booking and details if you go ahead.
Great trips don’t happen by accident. Timing, airline routing, accommodation choices, and small details in transfers, tours and excursions all shape the experience. Thoughtful planning ensures your travel and holiday feels seamless, balanced and truly enjoyable.
It’s about saving you time and helping you feel confident you’ve chosen well.
Does it cost more to book through you?
Usually, no.
In most cases, I’m paid by the travel company, so the price is the same as going direct — sometimes better.
For more complex trips, I may charge a planning fee. If that applies, I’ll be clear upfront.
If you book through me, it’s refunded as part of your deposit.
How does working with you actually work?
It starts with a conversation.
You fill in the enquiry form, and we arrange a call to talk through your ideas, budget and timing.
From there:
- I come back with 2–3 tailored options
- We refine them if needed
- I book everything once you’re happy
Simple, and properly thought through.
How long does it take to receive travel proposals?
Typically 3-7 days, depending on the complexity of the trip.
Multi-centre or bespoke itintineries take longer to pull together – but they are worth the wait.
Do I have to book with you after the consultation?
No.
There’s no pressure to go ahead.
Most people do — because it saves time and gives them confidence — but you’re always in control.
What happens if I find the same holiday cheaper online?
Sometimes prices vary — and I understand that price matters.
If there’s a better-value option, I’ll look for it.
But I also make sure everything works properly — flights, timings, hotel, and protection — and if something goes wrong, you’re not left to fix it alone.
Are you a legitimate travel business
That’s a very fair question.
I’m an independent travel advisor operating under The JLT Group. Your booking is made through fully protected, regulated systems, and you can find me listed in the agent directory.
You deal directly with me from start to finish — so you have both proper protection and personal support.
Do you book simple package holidays as well as complex trips?
Yes.
If you already have something in mind — TUI, Jet2 or easyJet, for example — I can book it for you and help you choose the right option.
Or we can build something more tailored from scratch.
How I can I be sure it’s the right holiday for me?
I’m interested in what you want in your holiday, the experiences that matter to you and the things you want to avoid. It’s about getting to know you, your preferred holiday style, and what will suprise and delight you.
You won’t be choosing from hundreds of options. I narrow things down to a small number that genuinely fit you — your pace, your interests, your budget, and how you want the trip to feel.
That’s what removes the overwhelm.
What types of holidays do you specialise in?
Solo-ish and couples travel, curious midlife adventurers, bucket-list wish lists, wildlife and culture-led trips. Generally for active people aged 40 – ish and upwards.
In short — holidays that don’t follow the herd, create lasting memories and make great conversation starters.
Is it worth using a travel advisor for solo travel?
Absolutely.
When you’re travelling solo, the details matter more — the right accommodation, the right pace, and choosing trusted, responsible suppliers.
It’s about feeling confident, safe, and properly looked after — without losing the freedom of travelling independently.
Will my travel be financially protected?
Yes.
Your booking is protected, and where flights are included, ATOL applies.
Your money is held securely through Protected Trust Services (PTS)
What happens if something goes wrong?
You’re not left to deal with it alone.
If something changes or goes wrong, I’m here to help sort it.
What if I need to change or cancel my trip?
This depends on the booking. Low-cost, basic economy, and discounted travel bookings usually prohibit cancellations.
I’ll explain cancellation and flexibility clearly before you commit — and help you navigate your options if plans change.
When should I start planning a trip?
Earlier than you think.
6–12 months ahead is ideal for the best choice — but last-minute is fine too.
Can you help if I don’t know where I want to go yet?
Absolutely.
It starts with how you want to feel, the experince you would like to have, what you want to avoid, and I can help you build from there.
Can I still travel responsibly on a long-haul holiday?
Yes — responsible travel isn’t about avoiding travel altogether. It’s about travelling thoughtfully.
That means choosing experienced tour operators, supporting local guides and businesses, and spending time in places in ways that benefit the destination.
Working with specialist travel companies, some of which are B Corp certified, helps ensure your journey is well designed, supports local communities, and allows you to experience a destination more deeply. Read my aricle: ‘8 of the best Responsible Travel Companies’
What is a B Corp travel company?
B Corp travel companies are independently assessed to meet high standards for social and environmental responsibility — considering people and places, not just profit. For travellers, it offers reassurance that the holiday you’re taking has been designed with care for both people and place.
That’s why I prioritise working with them where possible — so your holiday is designed with care for both you and the places you visit.
